Spare Tire Key....
Awhile back, I ran across a thread about doing away with that stupid key, and using (I think) an ordinary 3/8 ratchet extention. Anyone know anything about it? I need to hang my spare, and want to modify the thing beforehand.

If you can get your tire down then all you have do is take the lift mechanism down and pry the female end of the key out, your crank will fit into the the slot in the winch.
If you don't have the key use a 14 mm extraction socket and a long 3/8 extension to lower the winch and then remove the key in the winch.

yea i forgot the size sockets, i think what mentioned above is right, but i used the socket method with long extensions and it worked after a few attempts. i read you can take the lock adapter thing off and then not have to worry about it, but i haven't tried to take mine off yet. i still have the spare tire in my bed, so i haven't messed with putting it back in the stock location yet.
