79 highboy?

Did they make a truck in 79 that came taller from the factory, like a highboy, but just not called a highboy? Because my dad keeps insisting that's what my 79 is

My '79 also has a lift, with 6 leaf springs in the front. It doesnt look aftermarket and i cant see any name on the leafs or anything.
Someone did translate my Warranty Plate number and it came back as Dealer order or something, so maybe it was ordered like that? Idk

Only thing is, my sway bars are overextended. That is not something that i think the factory would over look.

IIRC whether it is a 250 or a 350 they all had 2 leaves up front from the factory.

Correct like you have been told, the answer to your question is NO. And remember you can put 73-77.5 High Boy 6 pack front leafs on a normally 2 leaf 77.5 to 79 all day long.

Ahh, that makes sense. I ordered leaf spring bushings for mine, and they are a bit loose and sloppy, which year should i order? Are 73-77.5 the same?

Yes as far as I know, they can be a PITA to remove and replace. Maybe a socket and a BFH will work, but a hyd press works better.

And yes you have to have the complete spring removed for that, if you are doing both. If only having to replace the fronts, maybe a C clamp u joint removal tool will work?

Or you can make a adapter and use a small bottle jack like a hyd press? Lube the new ones with petroleum jelly when re-installing.

If you try to torch out the old ones the rubber will burn and smoke like crazy....cough cough.

Pic is some fellow FTE friends lending a hand, hammer and socket with the leaf supported off the ground a bit.

HJ over.

I wonder if an air chisel would take them out? I'm going to try that next time...

The easiest way to get them out is with a torch. Burn the rubber out then carefully melt the shell then tap it out. Easy peasy!!
