There's the old adage speed is money... how fast ya wanna go? If you want my true opinion the best thing you could do for speed and power is swap in a 351w to begin with. That has a lot more potential to go fast and make power than a 5.0. It may be a bit expensive up front but if its really a lotta power you want it's the way to go imo.

And how would I go about doing that? Do parts swap over to hook it up or would I end up redoing the whole thing to get it in? Also right now I'm thinking more ease like the bolt on parts but if I end up liking where it goes I might upgrade the engine.
If you go too big with your changes then you will also need to start thinking about the computer. For example, you can swap your 5.0 with a stock 5.8 and use the computer that came with the 5.8 in your truck. That would get you the power of a stock 5.8. If you want more power, you can put on GT40 heads and a cam (up to a certain size) but once you do that if you still want more, you will need to be able to program the computer. Up until this point you can get away with just using a computer from another truck but if you change the injector size at all, you will need to be able to program the computer and add those changes in. If you go with a cam that is too large, same thing...you need to be able to program the computer.
Once you have specifics of what you want to change, post back and we can help you identify the best way to go about it and what you will need to do for future changes.
Would I want to buy a long block or a short block?
Or could I put the gt40 cam heads on the 5.0?
I wanna know if it would be more cost effective to buy a new engine or do bolt on upgrades on the standard engine
It would be best to just buy a new engine. 351w. Try to get a 96 and up if possible as those engines had MAF instead of the SD yours and mine do. You should be able to find one for a couple grand. Then after swapping the engine you can upgrade. For starters just search 351w swap on this site and the rest of the internet- you will a ton of information, much more than I could give you lol. :-)
