i just bought a 98 EB expedition, and i couldnt get the keyless remotes to work. i thought maybe it was the battery, so i replaced it. now it works sometimes, but i have to hold the remote almost right at the lock for it to work. i even tried reprogramming it, but that didnt help either. it seems like if i have the doors open, it gets a signal and the remote will work. is there something i need to do to the remote receiver? i dont even know where that is. i love my expy so far, but its driving me nuts to have keyless entry and not be able to use it. any ideas? ive tried both remotes that came with it and new batteries. im out of ideas.
i called the dealership today and they said they had never even heard of this happening before... i hate to have to take it in and pay god knows what to get it fixed... anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what the problem might be??
I've never heard of this before, either, but let's think about it:
1) Do you have tint or film on the windows? You say it seems to work with the doors open- is the film preventing the signal from getting to the receiver?
2) If the receiver is under the hood or the cowl, is something blocking the receiver? Leaves or other junk piling up under there?
3) Are you sure the new batteries are fully-charged and fresh? I've heard of remotes acting like this when the battery is getting low. Worht a shot to try another set of batteries (different brand and type, too) before getting out the platinum card at the dealer.
4) Has the vehicle ever been in an accident? If so, was it repaired improperly, maybe a piece of sheet metal forced in front of the sheet metal?
