Hi Wizards! I'm back after getting my son's '90 Shorty taken care of awhile back. But now my van needs a little tweaking. It sits more than it runs but I'm going to start using it for towing my boat like I used to.
Anyway, the issue's a code 31. Am I on the right path checking out the EGR? Does it avail itself to cleaning, or do I need to replace the position sensor only? I guess I'm just getting old as I can't remember this from a few months ago.
I just spent two days reading from the last page, backwards to page 118 and saw NO code 31 info. (I was bored). Thanks VannerDude.
You know, for what it's worth, first I'm going to just reset the light. The reason is that when I was trying to figure out my sons' 1990 Shorty van probs, I swapped out parts from my van. (Mine had no CEL prior to that so we'll see). Makes sense to my broke ***.
UPDATE 5/12 - No go yet. Did the battery cable reset try, but as soon as I reconnected the battery and started the van, the light came right back on in a couple of seconds. Calling for parts now.
UPDATE 5/13 -Located parts but on hold. Something is leaking coolant in a constant drip on my driveway. Started pulling airbox/hoses, etc to take a look but it's already too hot outside, and I'm too old. Gonna be a hot week here near the bay.
Hope I'm not boring you guys but I'm so PRO-UPDATE that I figured I'd keep following up.
5/17 Found the lower hose bulging at the water pump connection, new hose installed. Hoping to fill with coolant and get my sensor/gauge working again.
***Installed hose, leak appears now to be water pump. Going by Napa Auto to pick up.
