E350 V-10 EGR fault code

'99 E350, had Firestone do diagnostic, found EGR fault, cleaned passages and installed new EGR valve....2 weeks later, same fault came up. Now they say the EGR exaust sensor (part with the 2 rubber lines to it) needs changed....I think they are guessing with my money. I notice it runs choppy at cruising throttle but otherwise, good runner.

Any advice before i take it to Ford and spend a fortune? It needs Cal. smog check so, I need to get the check engine light off before that.

I just replaced the EGR sensor with the two hoses your talking about o my sisters 95' explorer that was throwing the EGR code and turning on the check engine light. Replacing that sensor fixed the problem. The sensor cost $145 and came with a new plug that had to spliced in to replace the old connector. Its easy to replace.

Replacing the sensor should fix the problem.

Most V10s don't have EGR, I see you got unlucky and have it though.

Check your catalytic connverter(s). They may be partially clogged.

Yes, the California smog zone in my area not only checks for hydrocarbons and CO2 but also, the dreaded NOX emissions so, EGR's are on everything here, soon to be on humans im sure

that sensor is called a DPFE sensor. it will fix the problem. they should have checked that first. 95% of egr codes are because of the dpfe sensor

Yep, thats the one.

The old one was all metal, now the new ones are all plastic and made in Mexico.
