I have a 1986 F250 6.9l idi, the problem is i have a short circuit somewhere but I'm not really sure where to start. I've disconnected the batteries and did a continuity test with a multi-meter between the small positive lead that goes through the starter solenoid and electronics on the passenger wheel well and the other lead to the negative lead that goes to the block and i get a continuity tone for about 5-10 seconds then it will stop and i'll be given OL on the meter. I tried disconnecting and connecting the meter leads to the terminal leads multiple times and there was only indication of continuity only a fraction of the times. if anyones had this experience ever any help would be appreciated because i'm stumped.
ive had this happen to my truck twice. do you have any power to the cab? my problem was in the wiring harness by the glow plug controller and check your fusible links. you seen handy so if you have a test light with a sharp probe try power after the links there is also a plug that i bypassed and went with bullet connectors. if you describe some more symptoms i can help you a lot. the wires to the cab start with a plug by the voltage regulator yellow wire and green mine melted and shorted there and also i had to change a link where the yellow meets a link with green and orange wires the green has a link that changes to yellow and runs the main power then the orange runs the accessories in the cab, has a link that changes to black with orange stripe. start there and if you need more help you can call or text me at 925-978-3108
