NOW IT WONT START

After the injector problems,The truck wont start now.It sounds like its trying to fire but just wont.I think I may have burned up my glow plugs, since I have had the truck they have been wired direct to the batt, touch two wires together in the cab for a second or two then it starts, now when the wires are touched power goes to the GP but no heat and no crank. The controller on the back of the block looks to be melted years ago,is unplugged and hanging behind the engine.I have another set of plugs I found in the truck years ago how do I check them to see if they are any good? I know theres alot about GP in here but its hard for me to find as I am extremely frustrated now. Thanks

get a test light, put connector for test light on the POS connection of batt

disconect one glow plug wire at a time

touch the tip of the test light to disconnected glow plug

if it lights brite, its good

if it dont lite or its superdim check your test light connection and condition of batt.. if all is good then the glow plug is bad

Its not wired at all, there is a wire from the hot post on the batt, goes inside the cab, touch to a black wire that is strait wired to a homeaid harness direct to the GPs

i just told you how to test each glow plug individually. it has nothing to do with anything in the cab.

Those that you have out of the block you can check by hooking the terminal to positive side of the battery and the negitive to the nut on the plug. Careful as it will heat quick if she works. Or if you have a high quality ohm meter you can check the ohm between the terminal and the nut should be between 0.5 to 1 ohm.

the way i bench test them is clamp the body to neg terminal of a batt you have around, then use the test light the same way, from positive to the lead on the glow plug. or you could ohm them like suggested.. make sure you get the ford breu plugs and not crappy ac delcos

heres a video i made of seeing how long it takes to burn one up completely with a batt outside truck

wise man.
rather than just put 8 new in there (and have them potentially burn up) and see what happens, you plan to test the complete system first.

my limited experience with the test light method:
it show's which ones are completely shot.it doesn't necessarily tell you how good the ones that do still light up are.
i had 6 still light.i dunno how many where out of their optimum resistance specs.but once i replaced the other 6,it was night and day.- i keep reading how this rare tho.so take the test light method seriously, and just replace the bad ones and try it like i did,if your cheap like me.
(buying the other 6 online was cheaper than buying a meter that would read the ohms this low lol.-all depends if you could use a nice meter enough or not tho.)

I have used either in the past but im a little scared of it in an old engine,my luck has not been good with my mechanical skills latley, short of it is I dont wanna blow it up! I did crack a few injector lines and its getting fuel.I pulled out one of the GPs and it was damp with fuel as well,It is a autolite 1107,so I know thats not good already.
