53 9 inch install. Which Shocks?

Hi everyone! I'm getting close to done with the 9 inch. Just need to fab up the lower shock mounts.
Since the frame still has the original crossmember and upper shock mounts in excellent shape, I figured I'd just order a stock set of Monroe Max Air hocks, pn MA727. Yeah. Right. Nothing is ever easy.

Went to the local parts hut and told the counter guy what I wanted, and what it was for. Turns out, he owns a 54, and he said his shocks had the eyelets on both ends, like the computer and the opened box showed.

Mine, obviously not. It is designed for the straight stud on the top, and the eyelet on the bottom. What gives?

What do you guys have on yours? I really don't want to hack a perfectly good, unrusted or bent crossmember when I don't have to. I can make any lower mount I need. I just need to have a starting point, like a part number. I'm kinda set on air shocks. Love em. Can't not install them on everything. But a pn for a stocker, or a different application you used will do for a starting point that I can use to cross reference. And Pics please if you have them. Thanks!

I can't help you for a F100. The air shock in the picture looks like what I used on my F-1 with a 9 inch rear however the upper mount in the F-1 is a stud. The location of the factory stud did not work well with the 9" rear so I welded on a new stud. I painted the white shocks (as purchased) red.

Thanks Guys. The 85 Bronco II is a good option, I think. The vehicle weights are similar.

Hmm. I just found this site, and I learned something interesting.

My frame isn't what I thought it was. It's a 56 frame at the earliest. And apparently up to a 1960. No biggie. It'll still work.

If you are going with Monros, it doesn't matter what the weight is, they all have the same internals.

Go online to monroe on find their specs, choose the ends you need and get the extended/collapsed info. I used Monroes on my '47 car because they were softer and KYB Gas A Just on my '54 panel because they're stiff.

I ended up with a set of Monroe MA805's. They fit perfectly.

thanks for that link. They have very good prices.

They list MA727 for the 55 F100 but my truck rides a lot lower than stock so I'm going to try the MA803 because it has a compressed length that is 2 inches shorter

I used shocks for a 65 F series truck, but my 56 is a little different than yours. The upper mounts are facing the rear of the truck on mine.

I guess that makes my frame newer than 56 as well. I'm beginning to wonder just how consistent Ford made these trucks.

I guess I need to go out and actually get the frame number and run it.

Or not. My 56 was heavily modified. Talked with my uncle this morning, my 56 has a later frame with a deeper kick up, used to create proper ride height after adding in the lowered GM from clip.
