Got a maybe issue???

Hey guys I got a problem or might not be a problem with the truck E99 f350 7.3 SCT programmer (Eco setting) when I step on it, it sounds like a huge rush of air that the turbo is sucking in....I know I've heard it work before but not like this. It's hard to explain but it only happens when I step on it and the rpms are up near 2000 or better (which I believe is when the turbo starts really spoiling up) I checked my IC tubes and hoses and intake hose everything is tight and I don't see anything loose or feel any holes in any tubes or boots. Anyone have any ideas if I have an issue or if it is just the normal?

Stuck ebpv , loose connection to downpipe, loose/leaky up pipes. Those are my top 3 guesses. Any signs of soot building up around your exhaust connections? Can the truck build boost?

Is the waste gate functioning properly? If so, I'd double check those up-pipes (are they stock or bellowed?).. before I put on my bigger turbo and bellowed up-pipes I'd hear a whoosh / blow by sound anytime my old turbo tried hitting double digits on boost. After install of new parts =)

No signs of soot around exhaust pipes and how do I check for loose and leaky up pipes? And they are stock also. Also how to check for waste gate proper function and I believe my ebpv is functioning properly because I rebuilt my turbo around a year ago? I haven't had any issues with it

behind your turbo (back against the firewall) your up pipes hook up to the turbo...with a bright flash light look at the two pipes going into the back of the turbo for signs of blow by (black soot) blown down the up pipes. The doughnut crush gaskets in the stock up pipes (especially older) are know to blow out under higher boost (learned this the hard way when I first heard the poop/poof followed by the whoosh sound). IF that's your issue bellowed up pipes is your cure.
Did you touch the stock waste gate when you rebuilt the turbo? If not your stock wg spring could be weak/ faulty. How does the truck drive in the other performance settings?

I'll check the up pipes later and see if there is any soot on them I didnt see any when the turbo was off but of course it was a year ago so anything can happen . As for the waste gate I didn't do anything to it so I agree that could be an issue...is there a way to check the spring or what not? And the other performance settings I don't know I haven't tried them I usually keep it in Eco so my exhaust temp doesn't go to high

I've attached a couple picture of up pipe location (there are two, one from each exhaust manifold). Note, one is behind the exhaust pipe. Mine were leaking as you can see in the pictures. Note the bellowed up pipe in the last picture.

Did this start before or after you did the 6637? When I had the 6637, my turbo made all kinds of funny noises.
Also, is it all the time or intermittent? Are you sure it's not just your engine fan engaging?

Ok I'll definitely check those out. And as for the 6637 I've had that on pretty much since stock back when I bought it and this is the first time I've heard this noise and I'm almost 99% sure it's not the fan because it happens just cruising down the highway at the same range of rpms. I just hear it more when I step on it

Just a thought and eliminator, on your turbo pedestal there is a wire bailed connection to your ebpv. Might want to disconnect that sender and eliminate the valve sticking. Takes 5 minutes. Flip the bail up, unplug it and see if that makes a dif when the block is cold. Run it out, see if the sound disappears. If it it the same, see if you can manually exercise the rod for the valve. If it is stuck closed, unplugging won't make a dif, but if it actuates, there are other steps to follow. Keep us posted.

(I really don't know ****, but I have a lot more knowledge than cash)

Im just getting around to checking this out. My truck was down for about a month before I could get a leaf spring in it. So now Im on vacation so I figured I would check it out. I used a flash light but don't really see the black soot on the up pipes. Is it supposed to be a heavy black or light black soot? I tightened all my IC boots and didn't really find any holes in the boots. My wastegate seems to move fine and have good spring tension. Should I just say F*** it and put in new gaskets for the up pipes? seeing as I don't have $$ for the bellowed?

Get a jug of simple green. Spray down the plant when it's luke warm. Let it set but not dry. Get some land surveyor clothing on........(ripped up jeans and throw away shirt).........Get in the compartment with a very fine bristle brush and a green pad. Have at it!!!! I use a toothbrush as well for clamp bands around the up pipe clamps.
Start at the top and go to the bottom misting it with simple green strait.

Ignore the look, just keep it moist.

When your done with the top, hose it off (no pressure wash, some will say different) Touch up what you see you missed.

After your done spray it down again from the top, Simple green, and then go after the underside, Don't let the top dry. Go to town again on the bottom and don't ignore the hard to reach spots because those are the spots you'll be looking at in the future to do repairs.

When your done, hose!!!!! it off and check your work. Apply as needed.

The only thing I cover and protect is the power steering cap. Waste a rubber, works great.

Guys that P wash they're rigs in my circle have a lot of problems in retrospect and can't pin point them because they force moisture into too many places at once. Thus multiple problems to solve.

Drivers side valve cover has a loom that should be highly thought of while doing this. It controls generally everything that will make it run poorly/start hard if compromised.

Do it on a gravel drive if possible without a tree hugger as a neighbor.

You'll really appreciate the amount of effort you put forth when you are trying to do regular and troubleshooting maintenance.

(Side note) Michigan here, too cold to do a GPR change-out on a flash, so I wheeled into my trusty shop and popped the hood. Mine is a E 99 F250, the shop stopped dead and everyone that spins a wrench was in awe over how clean the E bay was. I even got charged less. My truck is a plow/work/tow/drinking on trails workhorse on the outside. Cleaner than my Grammys stove on the in. Just sayin'.

Others will chime in. 250,000 miles of practice. No electrical problems.

By the way, I shared that because if you can't see what soot is building and where??? Where would you start looking for a problem??!!

Soot is black, with a flat (not shiny) finish... just like the stuff on the inside of your tail pipe. Look at anything exhaust-related - manifolds, up pipes, collector (behind the turbo, where the up pipes meet), turbo. Look near exhaust components - like the firewall with all that foil. Soot belongs absolutely nowhere under the hood... so even a little soot is a clue.
