Our 2005 Excursion has these side moldings (mouldings? whatever) on the doors. Plastic things, probably intended to absorb impacts from shopping carts, etc.
My driver side one is just hanging by the top. Looks to me like these are just taped on?
Anyone know what I have to do to properly secure this bad boy? Should I remove the whole thing, remove the old tape, and use a whole new set of tape in both places? Does one apply the tape door-first, or molding-first?
And, most importantly, what kind of tape should I use, and where should I get it?
I just scraped off the old tape where I was going to apply new tape. I applied the tape to the truck first, and then pressed the molding onto the new tape and worked like a charm. Had several rain storms and 80-90* weather since and no issue.
Our pathfinder window visors had the same issue. Removed visor, removed old tape with a razor blade, then cleaned off excess residue with a type of aerosol sticker removal spray. After allowing it to dry, used the same 3m double sided tape mentioned above to reattach the visor. I suggest doing it in warmer weather to ensure that it properly sticks.
Our local Wal-Mart offers this tape, you may check there before ordering. Also it does hold up well. Many auto washes, winters and years later, no further problems.
