Power steering fluid type?

I replaced my pump about 3 years ago when I did a motor swap and the new pump whines worse than the old one ever did. I just used regular power steering fluid. I did some reading and see it probably called for ATF type F. How do I go about flushing it out to refill with F to see if it quiets it down? Thanks!

Power steering fluid should work ok. Ford has always had some problems with air getting in the system and making it noisy. The first thing I would do is look at the suction hose and piping(the ones with the hose clamps) and make sure there are no leaks. You can also jack the frontend up, get the engine running, and cycle the steering lock to lock with the cap off and see if some of the air gets out of the reservoir.
