I put a reman pump on my '82 F-150. When I tightened the pressure hose fitting the threads got tight but the hose will still swivel in the fitting. Is this normal? I don't want to crank up and blow fluid all over the place!
Yes, it is normal. You may experience some power steering noises and intermittentant failures until you get all the air out of the pump and box. It could take several miles and/or starts and stops to work all the air out.

Thanks for the quick response - I'm in the final stages of a complete rebuild and hated to think of blowing fluid all over the new paint!!
When I refilled my power steering system after an engine rebuild, I jacked up the front of the truck, started the engine, and turned the wheel lock to lock several times. This is the most efficient way to bleed the system and avoids possible steering problems on the road due to air. If you can, have a helper moniter fluid level in the reservoir and add fluid if needed. It is OK to run the pump with the cover off to do this.
P.S.: I use Amsoil Universal ATF for power steering fluid--works great.
