I have replaced brakes on my truck before. But this time of course was different. I noticed one of the caliper pins was seized in the bracket. So I was going to replace it tomorrow with a new bracket and pins. I put everything back together started the truck and noticed that the truck dragged alot. also that the truck now PULLS to the left hard. Im curious if that stuck pin is making it pull. Now heres the weird part. Why didnt it pull before i changed the brakes. Also the brake pedal feel different than before. it feels alot softer.

I apologize for the long drawn out story.

Any help on what may be the problem will be a great help.

Softer pedal is usually due to air in the lines, a good bleed to get new fluid thru the system is likely to help that. Speed Bleeders are a good way to make the job easy. Slide pins need love and they are a maintenance headache. Getting the boots to fit on crappy rusty brackets is a pain. The cost is more, but IMHO the headaches are much reduced if a brake job is simply all new pads/calipers/brackets and rotors if warranted. And they usually are. Plain white box china rotors to keep the cost reasonable.

That's partly why, when the money was burning a hole in my pocket, I said no to injectors and yes to SSBC calipers. No flippin slide pins! SSBCs are not perfect, gotta remove the tire to bleed them for one. But no slide pin hassles, and with Hawk LTS pads and a little heat it's like ya dropped the anchor from the Queen Mary.

Thanks for all the responses. I got two new brackets from my dealer and two sets of upgraded slide pin kits as well. Also I have been using Napa brake lube stuff. It's not never seize its made specifically for brake jobs. Anyway I went ahead and for good measure I replaced both brackets, driver and passenger, Brand-new slide pins and more the truck is perfect now. The brakes also did not have any air in the lines.

Thank you,
AJ

Good to hear thing went well.

I'm actually realizing I am almost more fond of a new brake job than making the truck "go" better.....I hate the feeling in the back of my mind that I'll have to wrestle the rig to a stop in a panic stop situation.....like when it is braking uneven due to sticky calipers, pulls one way, then the other then even etc.

Luckily that is behind me for a bit and I now know how to address things better in the future. Also sounds like slide pin maint. will be in the spring lineup for all 4 corners as well.

Anybody switch to something other than DOT3 for brake fluid? I make it a habit to change the brake fluid every other year, but have wondered about DOT4...maybe even DOT5 for the future.

edit: yeah...not DOT5

I had stuck slide pins and one stuck caliper. All my brakes were toast throughout, so I started over.

EBC rotors, semi-metallic pads. 50,000 miles and counting - all good (even when wet).

I recently purchased this: http://www.valvoline.com/products/br...brake-fluid/28 I wanted something that was "universal" and would meet/exceed the brake fluid needs for all my vehicles.

Figures, had the left rear sieze up last week, replaced it as my first forray into brakes.....went well......this weekend, left front joined the party......replaced that today.....so that was a blown day. I'll do the opposite two over the next few weeks as I don't want two new on the left side only as that is a wee bit silly.....brakes......these things like brakes

These brakes suck.... Make sure to replace the front rubber lines if you haven't yet.

Anyone make good braided metal lines? Any links to a good "how the ferk do I do this?"......

I was sweating braking the hard metal line and the stock flex hose today......I assume someone makes a kit like substance that would include braided lines along with joins that are a little beefier.....

I went with Crown Stainless Braided since they had teflon/kevlar and the braid has a plastic cover so they don't saw everything they touch in half. The downside is the kit does not include the stubby lines for each rear caliper so I still have rubber hose there.

The only hiccup I had with the install is the clip that holds them to the frame. It turned out to be easy, just not obvious. See this thread for more info.

Roland - thanks for the Valvoline brake fluid recommendation above, looks like good stuff.
