Hey guys. I thought I'd throw this out there since I've had this in mind for over 10 yrs now. Around 12 yrs ago I did an add a leaf kit on my 99 CC F250 just to level it out. It worked ok, but was also plagued with the crooked stance problem that seem to be apart of the add a leaf kits kits. I lived with it for acouple of years, before going to the PComp 6" lift with HD RR Firestone bags that I currently run.
But I often thought about doing this.
Re-arching the front springs and adding a set of HD Ft Firestone air-bags, keeping just enough air in them, say around 30lbs or so, just enough air to take some of the weight off of the Leaf springs while allowing for an almost completely stock ride and giving the truck a level stance as well.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has done this and how they liked the ride. I have another 03 SC-F250 that's completely stock and I plan on keep it this way. The 03 does have 20's on it and tends to rub also, so at some point this year I think I'm going to do exactly this. I've never seen a truck set up like this, and I don't mean a complete (full bag suspension kit either), this is an assist to the Ft leaf spring type bag kit. I run Firestone rear Bags on my 99 and they're pretty nice for towing, so I know the Firestone HD bag kits are a solid unit.
So again, has anyone tried this?
Tried front bags on my 2wd and won't try it again on any vehicle. Put enough air in it to change the stance and it makes the ride rougher. Put hardly any air in them at all, and they don't change the ride height or anything else, so why have them?
Perhaps if I had a snow plow that I hooked up every once in a while it would make sense to have front bags, but I can't think of any other reason.
If your going to go this route with the front bags. Do not go with fire stone. I tried their front kit and it requires you to drill the frame to mount the brackets and it was extremely difficult to understand how to mount the brackets. I have rear firestone bags and than I used air lift front kit and couldn't be any happier! So my recommendation if you want front bags is go with air lift. It was a complete bolt on kit. I mainly bought the front kit for my plow which works out amazing and I feel the ride got better with full bag kit.
My whole setup is front and rear bags with a 5gal tank and firestone compressor. In cab I have a dual needle gauge and two paddle valves so control pressure for front and rear.
Also the ride height has changed for the better. It looks great.
