67 F250 Project

Well recently I had a need of a vehicle to tow my trailers and to haul random stuff. My work routinely sends me all over the west coast to pick up cars and parts. Up until recently I have been towing my 20ft open car trailer with my ex wifes full size Nissan SUV. Well the time is quickly approaching where I will have the Nissan paid off and will be handing it over to my ex to sell. I had actually been looking for a Dent Side crew cab to replace the Crew cab I sold a few years ago. When I saw this ad for a 67 F250 on craigslist, this truck had been posted for about a month when I finally went and looked at it. He advertised it at 1700 I got it for 1050. It is pretty clean and has been a local truck its whole life. a little bit of rust on the doors and front fenders but nothing a few patch panels can fix. the cab and cab mounts are pretty solid in all the crucial points.

The plan with the truck started with a crown vic swap on the front end, With this I will be Z ing the frame and building my own rear lower control arm mounts that will allow the frame modification and still clear the body mount. I was going to just keep the 352 and rebuild the c6. but after starting the truck the other day to pull the 911 out of the drive way the bad happened. an exhaust rocker arm froze and the piston violently hit the valve. The engine still runs but has a hell of a knock now. so now the 352 is out so now it is time to build a 390.

Still have yet to decide on a rear end open to suggestions I have been hunting for a 80-83 F100 9 inch iut no luck yet. Also grabbed a F700 inst. cluster while I was coming back through northern California.

Was able to spend an hour on the front end this evening. Work has been crazy, and it gets crazy again this weekend a quick run to sacramento and back. So little time for the ford.

But this evening I got the crown vic front end torn down, going to have all the aluminum bits soda blasted and I will glass bead all the steel bits and get them ready to either be powder coated or I may just use a chassis coat.

The struts are weeping a bit so I am going to contact Koni or Bilstien and see if I can find something with an adjustable damping rate. I will be replacing any consumable item to bring the front end into good shape

Got some free time this weekend to start in on the truck, Started with removing the front clip, Drivers side fender is pretty rusty going to find a new one, as well as replace the driver side door, Finding 67 doors should be fun.

But the sheet metal and engine/trans all came out with little difficulty. started in on removing the cross member and spring perches. still have alot more clean up on the frame rails to go but for now made good progress will hit it again after work tonight. hopefully have the frame cut and z'd by the weekend. as far as the rear control arm mount thinking of building a bracket that is also integrated into the factory body mount. That way I can get the truck riding where I want.

Still trying to decide on a rear end, something I can run the 5x4.5 bolt circle and that can handle about 750lbs of load. that is about the most tongue weight I end up with, Not going to be throwing much in the bed of the truck just hauling little old Porsche 911's around and the occasional 19-21 ft camper trailer.

My Job requires alot of traveling at times to go purchase Vehicles and prep them to be sent overseas and that is what I want this truck for. Something that looks good drives nice with no load but can handle towing a 2K lbs car. Just last week I spent 2 days Between Reno, Nevada City, Sacramento, Oakland, San Fran, and finally chased the car down in San Jose. All after a 914/6 that my bos had to have and sent me after. so sometimes its just alot of miles with no load.

So for rear end first thought has been the 80-83 F100 9 inch 4.5 bolt circle and suppossed to be 31 spline, but also have been looking at a bunch of 8.8 stuff for sale locally as well I found one complete with disc's for 200 bucks.

Well Made some more progress on the old ford. Got the frame cut and started the notch in it. also did a quick mock up. Found a 67 only drivers side door. and a set of 67 fenders with the correct size trim.

Found a 81 F100 rear end so that hunt is over. now to wrap up the front end box the frame and break every thing down for the sand blaster and powder coater.

I would like to drive it to the GTG hopefully I can finish it up in time but that is not looking possible, The original plan was to drive it for awhile with the 352 but the last time I fired it up it had a random loud knock. sounds like it from the valve train. so now I am going to have to build the 390 a bit sooner than thought. which is all good I will just cruise the daily driver up to your place. I know another foreign car.
