Hey guys,
My drivers window won't go up. I see that the motor is skipping on the window regular (teeth)? Should I replace the motor first? How big is the job to replace the Window Regulator, whats the hardest part? The motor is held on by special screws. Is there any way to get these off without buying a special screwdriver, or can I drill the heads off.
The three round spacers were shredded. I read online that some one used three 5/16" nuts, instead of plastic. You will need four 1/4" bolts, to replace the ones you have to drill out. To get motor and regulator out. test before installing.
What bolts/rivets did you drill out? The rivets that hold the regulator in the door frame? That's not how I do mine, mine (1991) came with from the factory with bolts that bolt the motor to the regulator. You have to drill two 1/2" holes in the door frame to access the bolts, but where to drill is already dimpled in the door frame. I guess from your description you did not do it this way?
On my 93 it had 4 special bolts holding the power window motor. When i tried to unscrew the nuts the center pin would spin to. Couln't hold on to the special bolt head, looks like a small fasterner.
Window works great now, I think it was only $17.00 for the gear kit at Advance Auto. My main gear was in great shape, didn't have to replace that just yet.
