I've tried. The brushes are attached to the rear plate (with the bearing), so they're not serviceable. I can get junkyard motors for ~$30, so it's not even worth the hassle of messing with a worn-out one.
The last reman one I bought cost about $60. The problem with junkyard motors, at least in this part of the country, is that they've been out in the rain too long, and are usually in worse shape than the one you're replacing.
I have replaced the window motor on the driver’s side of my 92; it was a bit of a pain to get at (involved drilling out some pop rivets) for all that work, and any annoying squeaks and creates from taking your door panel off I would recommend either getting a TESTED one from a junk yard (mine works just fine :-) or buying a new one online for about 70 bucks.
i am a very thrifty guy and to cheap to buy a rebuilt motor so yes i have installed new brushes in my window motor . i took brushes out of an old window fan and sanded them down to fit the guides on the rear bearing cap i then soldered the wires together and put it all back together and it has worked flawlessly for almost a year now. i had a tempo that i took the motor a part and found that the brushes were just gummed up teal bad and the spring that keeps pressur on the brush had broke. i used a spring from a pen to fix this one and it to worked for at least a year then i sold the car.
Jeez, you are cheap. Do you peel apart 2-ply toilet paper to make it last twice as long?
Seriously, I gotta give you points for ingenuity. Whatever works.
hey i never thought about peeling the toilet paper i just always bought single ply. i guess i have to figure out how many sheets there are in a 2 ply roll and see if it makes CENTS.
It might help if you put the armature in a vise or clamp it somehow, make sure you clamp it by the metal plates that are between the windings. Run some sand paper around the comentator to give the bruches a fresh surface to run on.
Just some advise.
