Sales Reps are paid to blow smoke, keep that in mind.
I thought the Hpop on the 03 and 04 (even late 04) was the same and then they changed the Hpop to the one with the STC fitting on the 05's....
My late 4 has had the problematic HPOP. 2 in 14 months to be exact.
Was the first replacement an oem?? I've replaced many napa hpop's that were only a couple months old. I'd like to hear about how many recent failures people are seeing on recent oem pumps. Everyone and anyone can blow smoke, I can only give my experiences. And my recent oem pump experiences have been good.
I had similar issues. The eventual fail as a "no start" identified the HPOP. The truck is a 2005 but the motor is a 2004, so the prob pump style. I wish i had the time and space to do the re&re myself, unfortunatly i don't. The shop has fixed the truck and i should get it today. While we were in there we replace the ICP and the IPR along with the pump. I don't know whose pump they put in but i will find out the warranty they provide.
IF....you were to buy another pump that has the issues FIXED.....what would you buy. I'd like to have one in reserve.
Wouldn't hurt to check your oil and see if there is any diesel in it. Mine was doing the same thing and we found that some injectors were allowing fuel to seep into the oil and after the truck got up to normal operating temps, it would just shut down. Let it cool for a while and it would go again. The further into an oil change I got, the more often it happened as the diesel was becoming more concentrated in the oil. 8 new injectors (it was at 200k) and things were good to go until the Black Onyx HG's began to fail on me.

yes both my Hpop's came from the same ford dealership here in the denver area
The 03s don't have stc fittings or dummy plugs and have different stand pipes. I would air test your system. The fitting is like 20$, but I hear it's really hard to get to the icp (where you put the air in) sensor on those. I also know the 03s are somewhat less prone to high pressure oil leaks. So You can get the tools to test your hpop which is around 60$ I think and easier to get too. I would guess it's the hpop. Id start there.
