Went out this morning, fired right up, then banging noise and a slapping feeling internal to the engine, oily smell, and dead. I fear the worst.
Can one transplant a newer version v10 into these things or is it time to start parting it out and shopping for a new one?
Any year 2V V10 will work but depending what it comes out of you might have to swap over a few things from your V10 like the intake and exhaust manifolds and your accessory's..
I would do a little trouble shooting before you confirm its the engine, How long did it run before it died, Does the engine turn over or is it locked. I would remove the belt and see if it will crank over as well. that will rule out a accessory freezing up..
It fired up immediately like usual, then choked and sputtered back to a stop in about 3 seconds with a jolting/slapping/ sound, and I smelled oily smoke kinda smell. No cloud of smoke though.
If an accessory froze up, it could have been the belt burning... I'll see what it does without the belt...
uploading the pic is failing. Ive got a cop with a broken mounting tab, boot on the cop, plug in the boot, laying on top of my engine now. It was pushed up an inch or so, i just pulled it out once I saw it.
It is the 3rd back from the front of the engine, passenger side. The hold is slanted towards the front and I can't see the bottom with a flashlight.

I've moved 10 hours away from tools, feel so exposed
I'm gonna send it over to the shop and see what they say. If the hole was straight down I could see it and do a timesert or whatever the preferred way to deal with this is, but the angle has me stumped. Shop probably has a scope I'm guessing.
