might look into it, budget tight right now so new/used is what I might end up doing, last limited slip I had all the spider gears teeth broke so you can imagine how fun that was driving home, so much metal in the rear end, got a lot of looks that day from the noise.
probably about what it sounds like when my f350 stripped the teeth off the ring and pinion gears lol
If your limited slip starts to overspeed one tire, you can apply the brake gently while still applying the throttle and the limited slip will re-engage.

dont know how true it is.. but have heard with limited slips your only putting about 80% of the power/tq to the ground due to the loss between the friction plates.. where with the gears in the lockers your putting 100% to the ground since the gears cant slip against each other.
gear to gears nice but little noisier too.. since during those uneven conditions you can hear the gears "clicking" when they bind/mesh...
Bind and mesh, will they wear quickly, constant diff fluid flush, not that I dont love the smell of diff fluid but dont fancy having to seal the cover on and wait for the silicone to dry.
If your limited slip starts to overspeed one tire, you can apply the brake gently while still applying the throttle and the limited slip will re-engage.
Stil learning the manual trans, every other truck was automatic, so that might be interesting.
cant say on how quickly they wear.. i would assume as long as your not abusing it and kept it well lubed theyd last as long as the ring and pinion does..
im with you not liking the smell of gear oil.. gets in everything for weeks sometimes a few months...

Still doing rear end shopping thanks for the info will keep it in mind, the first time I ha e opened the pumpkin cover I made a mess everywhere and after I drained it I pulled the axes out and got a little more diff fluid lovin.
big drain pain helps control the mess.. easiest thing i found to do was to remove the bottom 3 -5 bolts (depending on bolt count) on the cover, then loosening the others so that the cover stays mainly in place.. that way when you pry the cover up you can have the cover at an angle while most the fluids falling out without the cover falling off.. after the large mass is out i remove the rest of the bolts then the cover....
cant do much about the splash from the axle shafts when theyre pulled..
