I'm doing some research on intake and exhaust upgrades after I get her to "100%" as Tugly calls it
Two questions, didnt see a lot of hits using search, although Im sure this has been visited time and time again.
Do I work on helping her inhale first (intake) or exhale (exhaust) first? Or wait and do both together?
also, riffraff and other sites have a lot of exhaust options that have good reviews, but intakes seem a bit more hit and miss, which intake setup do you guys recommend? (It's an early 99 BTW)
What are you looking for in an intake? We usually go with the 6637 or an S&B depending on personal preference. Either will solve the leak issues of the stock box and provide clean air for your engine.
Just looking for reliability and improved airflow. I doubt highly I'll ever get into huge mods, but why not increase air in and out is sort of my take on it. (Especially with the knocks on stock intake and exhaust)
I am in the same process as you in trying to get the truck running 100% before tuning. For exhaust I went with a 4" turbo back aluminized. I didn't really see the need for stainless and the added price. I also skipped the muffler. Depending on where you are (local laws) and noise that will be up to you. I wanted to reduce restriction and hopefully egt's. So far I am very happy with my purchase and it's performance.
Intakes definitely got more complicated when it came to selecting one. It took me a while to settle on one with a lot of forum reading. I think if you know what your end game is with your truck and how much noise you can handle from under the hood it can help the selection process and the possible need to purchase another intake down the road. If you plan on a larger turbo, stage 2 injectors, bigger HPOP, etc you will need a lot of air in. Lots of people like the DIY 6637 because of it value and flow. I elected for the Ford AIS because I like the stock look, high filtration, good flow, not too noisy. I don't really see myself moving beyond stage 1 injectors if my stock sticks ever fail me (knock on wood) and maybe a ported housing or a 38r if I can talk myself into it. So far I really like the ais too. Not positive if it fits an early 99. Hope this isn't all stuff you already know. Good luck
Thanks Kefrko! I appreciate the insight. I'm just doing lots of reading, getting stuff done that needed to be done just after purchase has cost a ton of money, so Im just doing preliminary intake and exhaust work.
New tailgate hardware and door lock actuator issues take precedence over addons anyway :-)

I have to monkey around with my door lock actuator too. Passenger side just seems weak and won't lock or unlock. Haven't had a chance to take it apart yet but a lot of guys have luck with some aluminjm foil wrapped around the resistor or something along those lines. Some good threads and vids on YouTube about it.
