Exhaust/Intake question

I have an 03 6.0 F-350 with 42K. In Alaska during winter I get about 10 Miles to the gallon. Love that Type 2. I have read a few threads about changing your exhaust to getter better exhaust flow and also indirectly reducing air intake temp allowing better MPG. Common sense also tells me then the Air Intake should be upgraded however most forums say the stock intake is sufficient up to 500HP. I am stock no mods. The exhaust in question is the MBRP and intake is an S&B kit to include intake plenum. Can anyone shed some light?

A lot of guys will tell you not to get an A/M air intake. They do NOT filter as well as the stock Donaldson. Ford did a great job going with this paper element. The dust and oil that can sneak through most oilable gauze filters can damage your turbo. Maybe just do a zoodad to get a little more flow into your airbox. Then again it's your ride and do as you please. I've done a lot of searches and have come to point where I'm not going to risk it.

I see you run an MBRP exhaust. Other than the awsome sound did you notice a drop in EGT and throttle response.

Most people definitely see a drop in EGT's but the sound (turbo whistle) is usually in debate. some people say it sound great and some say its not worth it. go to youtube and type in something like powerstroke exhaust system. As for air intake? I wouldn't touch it unless your running different injectors turbo etc.

Don't have a pyrometer yet. Income tax return should take care of gauges. Throttle response is a LOT better because I deleted the cat. Sounds friggin sweet!

A pillar is the first on my list. Pretty sure the MBRP 4" is next. My ultimate goal is the the best MPG I can get.

That's a great goal. I'm kinda trying the same thing. I commute 17 miles to work and even an extra 1 MPG would make me happy
