Help! Anything that is electrical scares the #### out of me but I am in the final stretch of getting my truck back on the road. I had to switch out the steering colum so now I need to hook up the neutral safety wires. I have 2 blue and red wires and 2 black in red wires coming out of the colum and from behind the dash. Does it matter which red/blue goes to the other red/blues and the same with the black/reds? I hope this makes sense to someone as I am sure I made it more confusing than it actually is. Thanks.
The connector coming from the truck will have two RED with BLUE stripe wires. Those will need to go to the two matching RED with BLUE stripe wires on the switch. The order of the two RED with BLUE stripe wires does not matter. These are just the cutoff for the neutral safety portion of the combo switch.
The connector coming from the truck should also have a BLACK with RED stripe wire and a WHITE with PURPLE stripe wire. There shouldn't be two of the same color, unless I'm missing something. BLACK with RED stripe runs to the backup lights and WHITE with PURPLE stripe is power. All the switch does is connect those two terminals, so the order doesn't matter - but I'm hesitant to sign off 100% on what you're asking since the colors you're describing don't sound right, and I'm concerned you're looking at the wrong thing.
Thanks guys. I will check again but I am positive that there are 2 black/reds coming from the same bundle and 2 black/reds from the steering colum. This is a 1977 f-150 custom 2w if that matters any.
If its any help, my 76 F250, auto tran has the same- 2 red/blue stripe and 2 black/red stripe. When I tape the black ones together, the backup light comes on.
