Trace the wires back to to engine compartment and you will find where they are plugged in. Ford made a plug that went in there in place of the wires that go to the switch . So make yourself a jumper wire to get the wires tied together. Or just cut them and connect them together. I don't remember the color they are but somebody will know .

The colors are red/blue, white/ blue, black/green, and another red/blue. I tied the red ones together but worry about shorts

I believe that is right , I could walk down to the shop and check mine but at 72 i don't do any more than i have to .

P S the other wires are for back up lights you can tap in to them if you have a switch on your transmission.

Jim is spot on. All you need to do is jump the two RED with BLUE stripe wires together. The other two wires should actually be WHITE with PURPLE stripe and BLACK with RED stripe; they're for the reverse lights. You'll need to change that for the manual transmission too. WHITE with PURPLE stripe is fused hot-in-RUN power to the switch; BLACK with RED stripe is the switched signal that goes out to the lights themselves.

I guess I will need to hook up reverse lights, surely the transmission has a switch on it?? have not spent much time on that end yet, trying to get everything inside fixed first. thanks a bunch for the info.
I would love to have this truck finished soon!! I need to get on to other projects but this one is a real pain! haha. thanks again

Did you install a NP435 or a Borg-Warner T18?

I believe the back-up lamp switch is located on the topside of the transmissions for both.

The 4-prong plug on mine is on the firewall, a little closer to the passenger side from center.

Not the best picture, but the best one I could fine of my plug... you can see the plug hanging off the firewall.
