A hammer and socket will do, but I wouldn't suggest it. A C-clamp works just fine, but a vise with sockets to press in the joint would be better. If you have a proper press, use it.
Just make sure that upon installation of the shaft that you get it in phase.
First time I did my U-joints I couldn't for the life of me figure why the hell the dang thing wasn't going in the front yolk! I found out the hard way that my yolk was somehow bent inward just ever so slightly. Wound up destroying it and my joint. Had to have a new one welded on. Check out the photos I took.
