I'm currently restoring a 1970 bump and my transmission source fell through… back to square one, need to find a c4 to rebuild to bolt up to the rebuilt 302. A guy i work with has a 66 step side f100 (i know thats a chevy term but can't recall what ford called them) he said he will let it go for 800. It seems to be a solid complete truck with only minor rust (have only seen it through a fence) It has the c4 i need for the 70 and he won't part it out. I figure what the hell, it will be the next project. Is 800 a fair price? I know pictures would be helpful, I should have some tomorrow as i will be able to get through the gate. It has been sitting for a couple years. the guy says all it needs is a carb and it will run. obviously having been parked for years it will take more than that. Any info would be greatly appreciated as i am completely clueless when it comes to trucks of this generation. Thanks in advance!
X3 , get what you need off it and part it out ! That way you will get your money back , or , have your next project ! Either way , be sure to get proper title and/or bill of sale ( depending on local requirements ) Don't ask why I mention that .......
The rest of it you can part out.. 800 is a great price. I need a set of grille inserts and a radio bezel! If it has an original black steering wheel I need one of those too
You need to read it again, he's picking up a 66 for the trans the rest he'll part out or ?????
Bryan, Have you considered a 90s truck AOD to put behind your 302? Overdrive would be a must for me for any engine other than a FE. There is nothing special about the C4.

Yea I have thought about aod but was convinced otherwise by a couple guys at the transmission shop since parts are more readily available for the c4 and in there past experiences the c4 has been a great deal more reliable.
If I do end up parting it out I'll let everyone know but I doubt that will be the case as I have a hard time selling any cars let alone parting them out. I have only ever sold cne car, I've wrecked a couple given one away to a good friend and sold one to my dad. Thanks for everyone's input. I was thinking that was a great price just needed it cconfirmed

I would like to put a AOD in my 68 in place of the built C-6(429 motor) to lower the RPM from 2500 at 60mph for better MPG (get 11.5 now) that is if it doesn't sell this week on E-Bay
Bryan, the early AODs did have issues. I would suggest trying to get one from a 90s truck, you should be OK. Yes the C4 is OK just nothing special about it. IMO

Transmission shop is clueless; go to a different one. An AOD can handle a 302 just fine. If you were going to do a rebuild then have the week parts upgraded anyway. My friend just put an AOD behind a 331 that is in the 400 hp range. LOVES the AOD.
