Another thing you might want to check is the coil and it's wiring. Dying coils sometimes do exactly what you're saying, does it run fine when you manage to start it or when it gets warm?. I suspect the battery cables are the cause, but you have to rule out any other causes. Touch the starter solenoid, is it getting too hot?.
I have a new solenoid in it. Even when the engine is at full temperature, the solenoid is cool.
When it does start, it runs beautifully. (As beautifully as 350,000 miles will allow)
One thing I have noticed is when I have the AC on, and I'm idling at a light or something, the AC clutch almost kills the engine when it engages. It actually has killed the engine once or twice. I just assumed the compressor was bad and dragging heavily.
Pardon my ignorance, but is the coil built into the distributor?
Well, just replaced my cables. No avail. If anything, it's worse. With how hard it is to turn over the engine, maybe it's the battery? It is new-ish, from November 2012. I'll try returning it.
