Timing Gear

Can anyone give me any suggestions for timing gears ?? I have a 71 F-250 with a 360 inside. My timing chain and gears need to be replaced and I was hoping to upgrade to a gear drive set up. Any suggestions would be great!!!

2X GLR. Years ago I saw some car mag did a comparison on quite a few timing chain set Brands. MOST were NOT accurate. As much as 5 degrees off as I recall. I remember being amazed how many BIG NAME brand sets were off. I believe Cloyes was one of the Best brands. Buy one of their better sets.

Those are a nice setup but just to noisy as hell. They sound like ya have a blower. To loud for a street motor tho! I've seen guys remove and try to sell on C/L

I put an edelbrock timing chain set on my 390 a little while ago. Was not really happy with the fit, seemed a little loose for a new set. I would go with a cloyes if you decide to do a timing chain set.

Never used the cloyes but was not impressed with the edelbrock fit. If I had to do it again I would pick the cloyes, mho. Good luck with project!

GLR nice thread on the gear versus chain. I like how the one guy was mentioning big cube Mopars running them since I'm a Mopar muscle guy. I don't see any reason to go with the gear driven timing set over a chain except maybe on high output motors. And even then look how many years they were all built with timing chains and no issues. Especially for a street car go with a chain. When I redid mine I went with a comp cams timing set. Fit good and engine ran great afterwards. I forget but in another thread someone mentioned comp cams timing sets might be made through another company. I never seen if it was true or not.
