Step to Sport..A Tutorial...

Decided to change my newly installed step bumper on my '84 to a Sport/Bronco..now that I found a set of brackets..Seems that brackets have been my bane on this truck.....Problem 1.. The bumper does not have the cutouts on the ends like the step..to get it close to the body..Solution 1..Mark and Plasma cut the notch..5 minutes with a file on the cut edges..and it matches the Taiwan finish. .. (Plasma will not damage chrome)...Problem 2..(and I knew about this)....the Bronco brackets will not reach the frame rails....Solution 2...Fabricate and weld an extension to the frame, so that the brackets have about 2 inches of overlap. These can then be welded to the frame..or bolted. I welded mine...bumper can be easily removed by unbolting the 3 bolts on either side of the bumper. I may use a Bronco filler piece..(or fab. my own)..for the gap between the bumper and bed..Not a big deal...My take off is going to what I call the truck that will outlast the PYRAMIDS..!!..Gary's Dad's !!!

A tip..Start looking for the brackets now. Seems the going price is 75-100 for a good set. I found these on Ebay. Bronco Graveyard has them for 100/pr...Bumpers are available lots of places. I think my truck looks much better..so much that I also removed the FORD logo brush guard from the front bumper..Thanks again to Gary...j..

...that will still look good when your GGGGGrandson drives the truck around..still attached with grade 40 Titanium Allloy fasteners !!!

Never been a fan of those bumpers due to the odd gap between them and the bed. Will be interesting to see what it looks like when you get the "filler" added....

I have done this swap before on different trucks ( a 73 F100, and an 89 S10) and i always liked the look of them.

The way the bumper is configured for the license plate, this is as close as it can be without cutting the sheetmetal. Bronco had a filler piece..,I have some ideas..and..if you think of something that would work..let us know..j..
