HOWTO - Add LED Lights
The light is not on in the above the sparkle is from the camera flash.
How much it lights up.
This was taken without flash and only the map light on. It is daylight in the shed so you can see all the background but the area the map light covers can be seen. It's the blueish area in the photo.
I'll try and get a night time shot tonight.
Oh Yeahhhh!!!!
New Relays in...
Fuze box lid cut to fit on securly
I only just saw this so sorry for the delay in getting this to you.
The console is custom made by
"Department of the Interior"
They are in Australia.
No build details for the centre console as it was done when we first bought the truck in 2007. Basically it's a wooden box with a hinged lid and cup/bottle holders. It's got 12v and usb charging sockets in it. I'm looking at shortly doing some changes to it so will post them when I do.
Guys, I don't know what it looks like for you, but in my browser all the images I have posted show up in these threads as just links instead of pictures. I'm not sure what's going on. I had to change hosting companies (several weeks ago) but rest assured all the pictures are still at the same web address. In my browser if I right-click on one of the links and select "Open image in a new browser" I can still see the original picture. But for whatever reason FTE is just not showing them.
I'm real sorry for the hassle.
So, Luke, I'll make you a deal. If you want me to put the info from this thread on a page on my site I can do that. I'll need the pictures, but can take the text from here. And, that way, if there are updates along the way we can edit the page - unlike here where we have to find a mod to edit our own posts after 30 days.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
However, as we've discussed and you've agreed, a thread-style forum isn't the best place to document things. For instance, there is no way on FTE to splice together screenshots as I've done from the parts catalog. And, there are the various responses on the thread which sidetrack things. Further, there's no easy way to fix or update things that are thought of or realized later. But, a web site allows that. Plus, the picture links don't seem to get broken.
So, all I'm offering is to consolidate Luke's information, which is spread across many posts and includes broken links to the pics, into one web page. Or, to put it another way, I'm suggesting we use the tools that are best for the job: thread-style forums for interactive problem-solving, and web pages for documentation.
I do agree with you about the silly restriction on editing one's posts... which I've mentioned to the admins before. But I don't think they're going to change it.
I don't mind you putting this info on your own website Gary. Feel free to do so if you want, like I say you can still access the photos. But I also would like it to remain here as well, where more people are going to come across it. So hopefully we can get it fixed.
As for having your stuff also on my site, thanks but I'll pass for now. I'm working on several other things, so have plenty to do. And, hopefully the links will get sorted as I have this thread bookmarked to use the info when I do Dad's truck.
We are now back in business and pictures are working once more!
For the cluster lights, I used from Amazon. These worked better than I thought they would. So far, all I've put in have worked right off the bat, but we'll see how long they last. I also used the same bulbs for the AC/Heater controls, and that's pretty darn bright now. It did make the red on the AC/Heater controls almost pink though, but I can live with that. I also used them for the warning lamps and turn signal lamps above the cluster, and they are really bright. I was worried that the 6000k white led's would change the colors on the turn signals and warning lights (red not being red, etc), but it did not, so if you do not have green (turn signal), blue (hi-beam) or red (brake, fasten seatbelts) led's to put there, 6000k white ones will work just fine. The same bulbs will also work perfectly for the license plate lamps.
For the headlight/washer lamp area, I used a from amazon. This worked really well too, but it really only uses 2 of the 5 SMD LED's since it has the shroud around the light. I didn't think it would fit at first, but it slid right in. I'm wondering if the deflector shroud will cause premature failure due to overheating... Time will tell.
I did remove the blue filters. I tried the led's with them on, but it made everything really blue. Without the filters, everything is a nice bright white. Massive improvement over the incandescent lights. I removed the battery charge gauge to get to the one filter behind it, and while trying to put the charge gauge back in, one of the screws kept turning when trying to put the nut back on. I cannot get the nut back on at all now since the screw turns with it. I tried super-gluing the screw terminal post in, but even that didn't keep it from turning. I guess it's time to do a mod for a digital volt and amp display.
I've not replaced the main interior light yet, so may still do that.
I didn't take any pics last night when I installed them, but will get some tonight to post.
I do have one question though. I've seen a few pics where some have floorboard lamps for both the driver and passenger sides. Was this an option, or did all trucks have them? I don't seem to have them in my truck.
