Ford recall notice 05S28 Speed Control Deactivation Switch Fire.
I just received this notice in the mail today from Ford for my 95 F250. It says that there is a potential fire hazard from the switch and it doesn't matter if the truck is running or not and it also doesn't matter if the key is in the ignition or not. It doesn't matter if the speed control system has never been used. They suggest that the vehicle be parked away from structures to prevent under hood fire from spreading until the repairs have been made.
It doesn't state what years are involved with this recall so I would suggest if you don't receive a recall notice to call the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332 to see if your truck is involved with the recall.
I got a recall notice for that on my '95 sometime back when I owned it (I sold it in 2008, so it had to be before that). And then this week I got one on my '97. I don't know if it's a whole new recall, or if my '97 got missed in the first round.
Been around for almost 20 years. Recalls have to be honored for the life of the vehicle, and at no charge to the current owner. If you haven't had this one done, unplug the connector from the switch on the MC. It just may save your house, garage, and truck.
All you need to do is disconnect the cruise control module and you'll be fine, that's what my mechanic did. It's cheaper than going to the dealer and being told there's nothing wrong with it and being charged 80$ to get it inspected.
I wondered what that pig tails was. I thought it was something the p.o. did. That's their solution to a potential fire incident. What a crock of s***. A non serviceable fuse? Is that vs on when the fuse pops they can say they did the recall work and now you have to purchase another pigtail at a crazy price?

yeah, it is a Mickey Mouse fixed at best. I think they are about 20 bucks if you buy one from the auto parts store. Although I got mine from Ford and once my cruise control started working again, I haven't had any problems with the fuse going on that pig tail

No. The problem came from the brake pressure switch decaying from brake fluid, and would then short out, burning the truck to the ground.
The recall involves replacing the brake pressure switch and installing a fused harness. The recall is free, and should only cost you the fuel to drive down to the dealer. That fuse should never, ever have a reason to pop. If it does, something is seriously wrong with your brake pressure switch. That's why it doesn't need to be serviceable.
I just got this notice today for my 2003 E250. Glad you have this thread here... wasnt sure what to make of it... and you never know what type of micky mouse fix they come up with... some are good, some just flat out hurt the vehicle.
I think I will see about getting this one done... I use my cruise all the time.
