Cruise control switch recall

I had originally thought that recall was only for 2000 & 2001 trucks, but according to this article, the NHTSA is checking 1995 and up:

Has anyone had any trouble with that switch on their truck? It apparently hooks to the master cylinder.

Have checked mine frequently since a neighbor lost an Explorer in drive over night. Apparently any sign of Cruise malfunction is a warning to disconnect switch - I usually check to make sure there is no fluid in switch connector. I saw one post here where a switch leaked and the owner went to Ford and got a new switch and harness cheap < 20$. I may try that myself for peace of mind.

A new replacement switch from local Ford dealer was $29 plus tax; looked just like old one but makes me feel safer. I probably couldn't survive an insurance adjustment on an 10 + year old truck. It probably wouldn't be enough to buy a replacement toy truck. Apparently they are expecting recall to be expanded but I'll feel better until that happens and lots of parts are available. For what it is worth.

They need to go back further, but I think they are limited to ten years on a recall. If you purchased a new switch, keep the reciept and you can get reimbursed when the recall comes around. Also, the new switch will be the newest design available but may not be the recall replacement as they may not be out yet. Actually they will be out mid-late April. I would hang on to the part you bought and take it back when the new part becomes available.

I checked the switches connecting to my master cylinder and none felt warm. Is the switch I'm looking for the one that plugs downwards into the front part of the master cylinder (the one near the red area?)

Ok, so unplug that and I won't have cruise control but no possible fire danger, right?

According to the scimatics(sp) yes you can disconnect it and recheck to verify that the cruise is disabled. I think that is what they are or were doing at the dealerships until the parts are available. I'd zip tie it to the other wire to keep it out of harms way.
