Hey everyone im fairly knew to this site and was just wondering if i could get some answers and advice on some things. Im going to be picking up a 96 f150 with a 300 i6 in it and am planning on converting it to a carburetor due to simplicity. I know with these intakes they have to be heated by the exhaust manifold or otherwise. So heres the question. Would a hd exhaust manifold fit on this newer style engine? Also, if that wouldnt work any one know we re i can get a set of headers? Ive heard the efi manifolds flow good but headers would obviously do the job better. Thanks to anyone who can help.
No amount of simplicity is worth sacrificing the performance, economy, and driveability of the EFI on that truck. And if you're planning to drive it on the road at all it probably wouldn't pass inspection. Strongly advise against.
Might hold off on the headers from what I have read. The exhaust manifolds on the efi straight sixes are supposed to be pretty good and they won't make working on the starter a challenge as headers are apparently prone to do.

In mass any vehicle older than 15 yrs just has to pass safety. Not emissions. I was just curious if the head is the same style that i could run the hd exhaust manifold on along with a knew 4 barrel intake. Im planning on using the truck as a daily driver that i can rip up the trails and woods with on weekends. But it needs to be simple enough were i can fix it and work on it myself, hence the carburetor swap idea. Also, are the 90s motors still flat tappet setups or did ford convert them to rollers? Thanks for the input
Look man, we are all about telling you everything you need to know, but you need to spend some time in the stickies, and at ford-six.
Why would you go back? The efi you do NOTHING it adjusts for you, as you push the pedal. Thats like changing your rubber tires to solid wood wheels. Just dumb.
These motor never had a roller cam, all flat tappet, you can pay big bucks and get a roller though.
