Hello again, glad to be back after a long hiatus of a few years. I currently own an 82 ford f100 with the 300 six. I have removed all the emissions devices and installed a rebuilt carter one barrel with 1971 specs, and installed a 1972 pre emission exhaust system, eliminating the cat. I'm interested to know if replacing the single log style exhaust manifold with the twin set up from injection years would benefit enough to justify the work and expense. I'm mainly looking for increased torque and fuel economy. Any info appreciated.
John.
If you want to vet rid of that old boat anchor exhaust manifold, go with a good 2-piece header. I've used Hedman Hedders before and this should fit your application and budget: Hedman Hedders 89300 - Hedman Street Hedders - Overview - SummitRacing.com
I would also check NPD, LMC, JEGS & couple other places for your 2-piece headers for a better price but thats the best price I bave found and still have a good name behind it. Pair it up with some old school cherrybombs and you have something to be proud of (but thats just me and the pbr talking)

Reason: left out some info
The EFI manifolds will fit the earlier model engines, and offer nearly as much gain as headers without the drawbacks of headers. (fitment, leaks, and starter heat soak)
Headers or EFI manifolds have a minor drawback with a carbed engine. The stock intake and log exhaust are bolted together to provide heat to the intake, and without the heat driveability problems can occur, particularly in colder climates. There are ways around that, though.
The added flow of the EFI manifolds will help some, but the stock 1bbl carb and intake are far more of a bottleneck than the stock single exhuast manifold.
Perhaps AbandonedBronco will comment, but I remember him as saying that his Bronco [same engine] ran significantly better when he installed the FI manifolds. He ran it with the 1 barrel prior to changing intake manifolds and going with a 4 barrel carburetor.
By the way, you might want to read up on recurving the distributor, since the EGR has been replaced.
By the way, welcome to the forum!
