i have owned my 1996 f250 7.3turbo for about a week now. it has 273k on it. two days ago i was driving down the highway at 60mph and the engine died. i havent even had it long enough to run an entire tank of fuel through it so i switched tanks and it didnt help. i towed it home and began diagnostics.
all the fuses under the hood have power and none look broken, all the fuses under the dashboard are without power when the key is in the on position. i changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, and cps (w/ genuine ford part). the wait to start light comes on and there is smoke coming out of the tailpipe while cranking. i can visually see that the fuel bowl heater element is broken and the heater is unplugged, it came like that. there is no check engine light. i have learned a lot about my pickup in the last two days, but i havent learned how to fix it. if anyone can help me out i would appreciate it.
ps. what is considered the best service manual for these pickups?
