E350 powerstroke, 1995, RV Bus chassis.I was driving down the road and lost most power. got off the side of the road and assumed I must have run it out of fuel. Shut it right down and added 10 gallons. it would kind of start but not run right, not enough power to drive. changed the filter. same results. had it towed home. now it won't start at all. replaced the CPS with a new one. won't even try to fire. read all the archives.still won't start.
How much fuel pressure should I get at crank speed??
What is an easy way to tell if the injectors are getting a signal at cranking?
it appears no fuel is being applied. since this is a van chassis I have removed the turbo and exhaust to just see the engine and fuel pump. so I can easily see no fuel is coming out the exhaust on cranking. HELP. NOW what???
Thanks for the reply, does the fuel heater have a timer that will cause the injector signal to wait. I don't understand the relationship, but willing to learn
Nope it's on all the time, it can cause a no start situation, pull the fuel filter and the wire that goes aound the plate in the bottom is the heater, if it comes lose it can short out on the housing and keep you from starting. Just unplug it and check your fuses. Also are you sure you are getting fuel into the fuel bowl?
I hope some one can answer these questions, I see that two other guys are having the same problem. Please let us know how you fixed the problem. I NEED this van
What are the chances of a new CPS being bad? Do you have a tach to check the function of the CPS, since I hear that it should show rpm of the CPS is working right?
Have you checked the engine oil level? The HPOP relies on sufficient oil supply to operate the injectors. Also check the oil level in the high pressure pump.
OK, I got a chance to work on it today, Oil level is fine. How would you check the level in the high pressure pump? do you mean check the pressure? I even pluged in the engine heater which really warms things up. still does not even try to start. I'm about ready to call the junk man.
The HPOP is located on the top front of the engine in front of the fuel filter. On the SD there is a plastic cover over it. Remove the cover and you will see a plug on the top. Remove the plug and the oil level should be near the top. If its low fill with engine oil, install the plug, and try to start it. Just had another thought. Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key on? I'm not sure where the pump is located on your RV, but on the newer SD it's on the inside of the frame near the driver's door. Since most RVs aren't used all of the time, critters set up housekeeping. Also look for chewed wires and even a nest in the air filter.
