Question wts light not working no start

Hello everyone I need help on ford f250 1999 7.3 .
Let me start on the begining of the end , I was driving whe I had what I thought was a inop fuel injector , turned out it was the fuel pump, I changed it and noticed that the wait to start light was out and no prime from fuel pump . I looked on line and found info to change the computer that controls the fuel and wts light . replaced it and still no start and no wts or prime on fuel pump . Any thing I might have over looked (also reset safety switch on passenger side kic panel).

Welcome to FTE. Most of the time this is caused by a shorted fuel bowl heater. Look on the back side of the fuel filter bowl and you will see an electrical plug. Unplug that from the bowl and just leave it disconnected for now. Then on the 99, I believe it's fuse #30 that you will find blown from the heater. This fuse also powers the PCM. Replace the fuse, leave the heater disconnected and start the truck up.

If the fuel bowl is empty, cycle the key on for 20 seconds a few times first to refill the fuel bowl and lines. Then either leave the heater disconnected from now on, or look into replacing it later if you want. Many here just leave it unplugged with no ill effects.

I agree with Chris, too, but do you have a chip?

Yep, had the same problem, unplugged mine, changed the fuse (15amp IIRC) and never had a problem since! The bowl heaters just kinda rattle themselves loose from the solder connections after so many miles.

Chris is correct. Fuse #30 is the one to check for your year. Here is a fuse diagram for future reference.

Thanks I tried this and still no hope , I did install the diablo tuner but when this happened I uninstalled the program. I also bought a new icm (injector controll mod ) I also have 403,000 miles . I was told by a car mechanic( not diesel) that pcm is bad , Do you think I should go through the trouble to check it out ?? thanks again !!

Double check (Pull and Check)ALL your fuses. Is there a chip in the PCM?

Did you install the diablo before or after this happened? If the diablo can communitcate with your PCM, then it's unlikely you need to replace it.

As mentioned, triple check your fuses, including using a meter and pulling and replacing them. You are checking both the fuses under the hood and under the steering whee, correct? Be sure to leave the fuel bowl heater unplugged while we figure this out just to be on the safe side.

The next step will be to turn the key to the on position (not start) and listen to verify the fuel pump is not coming on for 20 seconds when the key is first turned on. If it's not, leave the key on and start pulling and swapping the relays (square fuse things) in the panel to see if maybe one is bad. Just switch things that sound important like IDM relay for ones that don't like heater blower relay. Then go under the hood and grab and wiggle any wiring harness you see. You don't have to shake them hard, just enough to move them around. If you hear the fuel pump come on suddenly during any of this, stop and figure out what you just did to cause it to start to work. Pay close attention to the big harness with red striped tape over the driver side valve cover, the harness over the driver front shock mount, and the wires inside the steering column.

Mine is 2000 but when my fuel bowl heater died, it was the larger maxi fuse that went under the hood.

Must be the Season, My 1999 F-350 same problem. I had it towed home Fuse 31 was blown and I replaced it, still did not start. This morning I went out it started, Pulled out the scanner, toss out a code that the memory was not stored but as I had the Batteries disconnected this was not a worry. It shut its self off and back to a No start condition I put the battery charger on it, just to top off the batteries. I have check all fuses again, Replaced the CPS Sensor, Ideas???? any help would be appreciated greatly, and would earn dinner drinks and a great cigar to anyone who could help me...

Welcome to FTE David. You really should start your own thread so the folks who start reading threads don't stop before they see your question.

If you have no WTS light, did you check fuse #30 under the hood?

Did you unplug the fuel bowl heater and leave it unplugged? If not, then the fuse is blown again.
