Yup, externally everything is the same. Heads, manifolds, flywheel. balancer, etc. will interchange. The only difference between a 360 and 390 is a slightly longer stroke.
NAPA is ordering a 390 long block tomorrow morning. I think its on the pricey side but I got a account there that I can pay it off 12 months same as cash. $2000.00
Not all FE blocks are the same. As long as they don't give you a early one which I think is around 1965 you will be fine. I remember looking at one for same and the motor mount setup was way different.
I put the new 390 long block in about 3 weeks ago. I absolutely love it. It has a total different sound and feel to it now. Ive put 500 or so miles on it and I'm not upset with the gas mileage it gets. I havent done the actual math but its gotta be getting 16 or so which is reasonable to me. I now have to upgrade the power steering to the 4x4x2 and I will drive it every day!
