Hey, My buddy wants to know if he can put 390 heads on a 360 block? All Stock bore.
Sure he can, but it's a lot of labor for nothing..the 360-390 heads are identical 1968/76. Different heads fit different years, it has to do with emissions, but the heads are still the same.

ok he just wanted to know because my 360 has a cracked ear on the head and he has a 390 and a 360. The 390 is blown up so we are going to take the parts off the 390 to put into our 360's. I cant wait to get mine running!
lol, noo we just need random parts. i need the head and a timing gear set. I have a tooth missing on mine. Thats pretty much it. Is there a difference in the cams? In my motor the lifters are out of order, the ding dong before me threw parts around. So my buddy was thinkin of using the 390 cam and lifters and i was going to take his 360 cam and lifters that are in the same order. If not im gonna stick the lifters back in and hope for the best. The lifters on my motor have no pitting nore doming.
I don't know about the cam. But its been awhile since I worked on an FE motor. I'm thinking that the rocker arms on a 360/390 are nonadjustable. So you'll need to make sure that the right pushrods are on the right valves. Pushrods come in differant lengths and thats how you set the valve lash on nonadjustable rockers. And lifters and the pushrod wear-in together so matching the two backup is ideal.
