Hey guys. I have an 02 f150. It's a 5.4 with the factory tow package. I have a trailer brake controller and want to hook it up to be able to use trailer brakes. Can anyone enlighten me on how to install it and anything else I need to do for the brakes to work? Thanks
Under your dash should be a loose cable connector end.
Get the correct adapter cable for your controller.
Mount the controller as per instructions.
You will need an additional relay in the power distribution box as well as populate another fuse position.
This makes all functions useable at the 7 pin rear connector.
Any trailer of larger size needs a battery on the tongue that is kept charged from the truck and a breakaway cable to operate the trailer brakes should it come loose of the truck.
Be sure fuse 19, 20, 101, 108 are in place and relay 302.
Look in pages 211, 212, 213 of the owner manuel for these appearances.
Check out your legal gross combines weight rating if you plan to tow a large trailer over 6000 lbs.
