I am in the middle of a 5.0 to 5.8 swap in my 94 maf f-150. I would like to delete the egr system totally and was wondering if there is anyone who will write a custom ECM with the egr disabled. The factory parameters are fine on this swap, I just don't want the egr codes
OK I have to ask this question. Are you confusing the smog system with the EGR system? Many people do so I just want to make it clear. The smog(air injection) comprises most of the "junk" under the hood and it can be totally eliminated without setting any codes or a check engine light, just make sure the TAB and TAD solenoids next to the coil remain present and electrically connected.
The EGR system is much smaller and just consists of the valve next to the throttlebody and a single tube down to the exhaust, to eliminate this you will need a custom "chip" for the stock ECU and for that check out the usual tuner suppliers.
You can get a custom chip for this, it will mount to your current PCM and the PCM will use the code on that chip to run your motor. If you are deleting the EGR with a custom chip, you can also have the TAB and TAD deleted as well. Then you could remove those all together.
The smog plumbing has been deleted by previous owner. My new professional products manifold has a different hookup for egr ( no tube from EGR to manifold) and I would rather just delete it if I could. Thanks for the info. Any advice on which chip tuner to contact?
