My truck is acting funny lately I'll be driveing and it will shut off randomly but if I turn the ignition it will crank and start right up it has a new coil and ignition control module any ideas
Loose wire somewhere maybe? Maybe shorting the spark out after a certain dorection turn or bump then when the motor stops the vibration or torqueing angling of the frame it fixes itself? Or maybe fuel system gets clogged and when the vac breaks whatever it is doing it is released?
My son's 1984 did a similar thing, years ago. Echoing what JayzDaddy said, try this. With the engine running and the hood open, VERY CAREFULLY grab part of the wiring harness as well as exposed wires and gently shake or tug on them. I did that with my son's truck and fortunately, quickly located a wire that when wiggled, caused the engine to stutter. This particular wire had rubbed against the bottom of the air cleaner housing.
A quick repair [electrical tape] and the problem was gone.
Do be careful and watch for the fan and v-belts [or serpentine].
I wiggled the wires nothing happened but I was sitting in the truck and it was just idling and shut off when I went to start it it's like I lost spark I know the fuel pump was running so I assume I had fuel
Did you check the rotor or any contacts inside the distributor cap take some emery cloth in there and make them shine. If the rotor is worn try to bend it and start it again. That has gotten me to a parts store before. But the rotor should be replaced before it wears out the coil if it is worn down. Good luck let us know the updates.
