timing chain set 65 352

In February this year I bought 1965 f-250, CS, 352, 160,000 miles, compression 125# all within 5#'s, PO replace points with a MSD electronic distributor, I went to replace the timing chain and bought a set from NAPA, put things back together and the fuel pump lobe was hitting the timing chain cover and when I tried to time it the timing mark was jumping all over. I tore it back down and everything appeared to be tight. upon further inspection the new and old crank gears are identical but the new cam gear is 3/16" of an inch thicker. check with NAPA and it was the correct set. Tried a new part store and the same thing. Dry fit both old and new set with out chain and took measurements. The old set clears the cover and the new set is will not. The new cam gear sits 3/16" proud of the crank gear, is there suppose to be a shim behind the new crank gear? afraid to reinstall for fear of same issue.

Sorry for long post, just trying to get all info to you all. Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the camshaft gear spacer (6265), it's made as part of the new camshaft gear.

Thank you NumberDummy, that makes perfect sense. I will give it a go this weekend. Thanks for saving me any more brain strain.
