Timing gear marks
When installing new timing chain and gears, i know to align the marks on the two gears. Does the crank mark need to be in some order to align with cam. I think i installed these two by turning crank till mark was at top and rotated cam until it lined up with crank. At the time this was done lifters and pushrods were not installed. I am trying to solve an old problem i have and am back tracking trying to figure out what i did wrong.

Crank timing gear mark should be at the 12:00 position, cam timing gear mark should be at the 6:00 position ( lined up with each other). This will give you tdc #1 cylnder, drop the distributor in with the roter lined up with the # 1 wire post on cap. Should fire up.
