Took the '50 out for a spin a couple days ago as the sun was shining and the temp was above freezing. I noticed a smell of gas in the cab, tank is out back between the rails, so I opened the hood and noticed one of the fuel injectors was leaking. I shut the engine down and after cooling, started into changing the injectors, which were probably original back in 1990. $550.00 and two days later I got the injectors installed. I had to drain the rad and remove the fan shroud so decided now was the time to install my Ford racing valve covers as well. I knew they were "slightly" taller than the stock ones, but didn't know how much until I tried to re-install the intake plenum. The covers are too tall and the oil filler won't allow the plenum to sit down; it is also closer to the engine and hits the plenum. Going to have to remove the one cover, and modify the filler port. This will delay crusin' for a while.
I seem to go backwards often. Yours will look nice with the valve covers and run better with the new injectors. Mine isn't driving yet, no cruising for a while for me...
Took a look just now ; the driver side install would be tight towards the firewall and would be under the throttle linkage.
Don't feel any smarter but my plan is to extend the filler tube towards the front at a 45 degree angle, metal is thin , will have to show some patience.
If all goes well it will look OK; nice to have the new valve covers to kick up the engine compartment. Hopefully my welding skills will not destroy the cover. Will keep heat low and go slowly.
Spent time today to weld up the filler tube to the valve cover. Heres a look at the cover before install and after, positioning will allow for oil fill now.
