Hello all.
I just purchased a used 2008 E250 conversion van with 43K miles.
Looks like the CC switch is not working.
While in route pressing the button does none:
- The light doesn't go off
- Transmission doesn't shift
- RPMs do not increase.
Has anyone experienced the same?
I want to ask you guys first before I go after the switch itself.
Thank you
I may not have the answer to your question, but could you please state your problem more clearly?
What light does not go off? Why would a CC have any effect on RPM or shifting once you are at steady speed?
I know some Fords have had issues with the overdrive switch blowing out fuses because of frayed wires at the base of the steering column, but that fuse took out the instrument cluster, etc. My late FIL's Grand Marquis had this problem.
Check all your fuses first. Also, there were recalls on the cruise secondary switch in the master cylinder. Ford did recalls on these vehicles including my '02 van. The temporary fix was to disconnect the CC at the master cylinder. Any wires disconnected there?
If you clarify your question first, that will be a lot of help.
There is a small light on the shifter right next to CC switch.
The light would turn on when CC is OFF.
Usually when CC is turned OFF the transmission shifts down and RPM increases - Doesn't happen in my case.
I will check on recalls and fuses tho
No experience with the things you describe and I am even more confused now. Ford factory CC controls are on the steering wheel hub and they turn a light on the dash when cruise is activated. Otherwise no lights.
No effect on gear change or RPM with the cruise on or off if I'm holding speed in any vehicle I have ever owned.
Is your CC a Ford factory CC with controls on the steering wheel? If it is an aftermarket CC you are on your own with the company that made the CC unit and whatever entity that installed it. I have never known of any CC with controls on the shifter--GM, Chrysler, and aftermarket units are on the turn signal stalk, not the shifter on the right side of the column.
OK, as I said, my late FIL's CC button would pop a fuse and take out the switch function but also knock out the instrument cluster. It would blow a fuse. Problem was frayed wiring inside the steering column near the dash as I recall.
Look up Ford CC recall on Google, but I think that problem went only thru 2003(?) but I may be wrong. That was a pressure microswitch inside the master cylinder. Fix was adding a little inline fuse that would blow if the switch shorted, instead of setting the vehicle on fire....
Good luck, and welcome to the forum. Get some sleep
George
I can't help with your problem but I can ask, do you really need an overdrive on/off function?
As I understand it, by default it's on. When shut down, with the push button, all it really does is change the shift points to yield a better feel for the driving experience (for example while towing). It's otherwise the same and NO damage will occur from using either.
OD off is not useful that often; I might use it on a long downhill to provide a bit more engine braking, and I could see that when carrying a heavy load or trailer, one might want to keep the trans in 3rd to keep it from "hunting" for gears with varying loads.
I just like stuff in my vehicles to work regardless of how little I might use it...
