numb steering

Just in case I run out of things to fix this weekend...

My steering is loose. It doesn't wander like it would if it needed ball joints, but it's 'numb'. I can move the steering wheel back and forth six inches while driving straight down the road.

Is this the steering box? Can these be rebuilt, or do I spring for a new one?

gear box is 159.00 at autozone. i had the same problem 3 weeks ago and that fixed it

i went ahead and changed all my ball joints and tie rods as well.
then i took it to the good year dealer and had it computer aligned. working really well so good luck to you

numb steering

I had excessive play in the steering on my 89 E-150. There is an adjustment screw with a locknut on top of the steering box which I tightened in 1/8 turn increments until I was satisfied with the steering. Worked great!
