I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I have looked all over, in my manual, etc., but what is the redline on my '89 302? The tach goes to 6000 but there is not redline. Thanks.
When it breaks! Seriously, I have no idea. Mine has never passed about 4200 and thats with me pissed and givin' her every ounce of skinny pedal I can punch into the floorboard. Mine is a 92/302.
Hi, I have a 1990 Ford Bronco. It has the 351W HO engine. My engine easily gets up to about 5500 R.P.M. with no problem at all. It all depends on what shape your engine is in and what you have done to it. I have over $8500.00 into mine.
When I had a stock engine it would do about 4500 before it began to poop out! You definelty don't want to push it to 6,000 R.P.M. These truck engines just weren't designed to spin that FAST, stock. The reason for that is all the heavy internal components!
The reason those imports can spin at 9,000 R.P.M. and get there so fast is because, they use all aluminum, light weight internal components. Hope this helped you some.
Yeah, I would say for a stock EFI302 truck engine, 4,000-4,200 rpm would be about it's redline. My 1990 Bronco's EFI302 has a mild cam in it,and at WOT I observed 4,500rpm before it shifted into the next gear. My Bronco's tranny is an AOD.
Yeah, I didn't think I'd want to push it much above 4000. I have a 5spd, and I'm just learning how to drive it and what gear to shift in when passing, etc. so my grandpa suggested seeing where the tach is at 55 in 3rd or 4th gear to help get a feel for it. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for your help. 10 more days till my license exam...can't wait!
I've had my '96 stock 302 above 4500, almost 5000 (I wasn't watching to closely, with the road being ahead of me and all), it seems to do fine. Usually I try to keep the rpm's down though.
