You can drive as long as you like. You may notice a small reduction in mileage but its nothing major. When the ICP is unplugged the PCM defaults to a generic table.

Mileage and throttle response is affected, but like Peter said, it's not going to hurt anything.

My icp plug has been covered in oil for a while on my truck and Excursion, but they still run good and get good mileage. Should I worry?

You never know, I'd buy a spare to have just in case.

Get a spare - you never know if the the failed part may somehow completely fail and leave you stranded with a big oil leak. I ran mine disconnected for a round robin trip from E. TN to Dallas and back. As long as you are not doing any serious towing you should be fine.

No. Leaking oil that seems out of the connection and drips down into the valley is cause for concern. My original ICP had oil in the connector. I changed it around 300k just because. Then I loaned it to a local guy to help him out and he's still running it a few years later.

My new, replacement ICP has some oil in the connector too. My wife's truck doesn't have any oil in the connector at all, but her ICP went out a couple of weeks ago. Had to change it to get the truck running again, but no signs of oil.

Oil is just a hint, not a sure fire diagnostic.

Yeah thanks Chris,

It just has some oil in the plug on both my f250 and Excursion. I'll keep an eye on them, but I hate to throw money at stuff haha.

So I thought I'd post back in here .

I drove with the ICP unplugged for about 3 weeks and then one day i decided to plug it back in , once the truck was warmed up . That was about a month ago . My truck was running fine but still had oil in the connector . I ordered a new ICP from RiffRaff diesel . I got it installed with a friend on mine ( FTE member " Dan's Cool " ) down in Buffalo NY a couple of weeks ago . The truck runs fine with the new ICP . Going to keep the old one as a spare for now .
